“Welcome… to the check-in counter for your Deserted Island Getaway Package!” said Timmy and Tommy as the game opens. They get me set up with the new island. I was asked what hemisphere I want the island to be in. I thought about it. I live in the northern hemisphere, but then again, I’ve picked that before. “Southern hemisphere,” I chose. I answered a few more questions and picked which island I wanted. They ask me, “If you could bring one thing to a deserted island, what would it be?” Knowing it was a hypothetical question, I responded “Something to kill time.” Then it was finally time to depart.

From the plane, I could see the island come into view. The island was crawling with life and covered in peach trees. We landed in the water and walked out of the airport. Timmy and Tommy told us to meet them in the plaza so we could see “our fearless leader himself” give a presentation. Seeing as I had no choice, I followed them to the plaza where we met Tom Nook.
Tom Nook gave us the rundown about island life. I was also introduced to my new neighbors, Hazel and Antonio. Nook told us to collect our tents from Timmy and Tommy and find a place to set them up. I wandered around for a bit, but I eventually found a good spot. Hazel and Antonio both didn’t seem very sure of where to put their tents, so I offered to find good spots for them. They both happily agreed, so I set up their tents near mine.

I returned to the plaza and Mr. Nook announced that we were throwing an “island-warming party” that night. I helped him gather supplies while everyone else was setting up the plaza. When I say “helped,” I really mean did it myself. Nook didn’t do anything. Anyway, I finished gathering the supplies and gave them to him. Before long, it was time to party.

Our “fearless leader,” Tom Nook, gave yet another speech. We, well more like he, decided we needed to name the island. We all thought up names for the island and voted on the best. Being obviously the best choice, everyone voted for my suggestion “Tarrey Town” (in reference to Breath of the Wild). Mr. Nook even decided to make me the “Resident Representative,” whatever that’s supposed to mean. I guess he’s got the power to give out whatever titles he wants because he’s the “Fearless Leader.”
Nook woke me up from outside the tent the next day. I joined him outside to see what was up. He first gave me a Nook Phone (a cell phone with apps that help with island life) before telling me I had to pay moving fees. He was quite surprised to find out I was completely broke. He then made me a one-time offer to pay the fees in “Nook Miles” instead. What are Nook Miles, you ask? Of course, you’d only ask this if you haven’t played ACNH. Why you would be reading this if you haven’t played ACNH beats me, but I’ll answer the question nobody asked anyway.
In short, Nook Miles are a currency made by Tom Nook (hence the name) and you can earn them by completing goals on the Nook Miles app. According to Nook, I owe him exactly five thousand Miles.
Once Nook was finished with his lengthy explanation, I was finally free to enjoy my new island life. I checked my mailbox to find a letter from Nintendo. Attached to the letter was a ACNH Nintendo Switch. I also got the chance to really chat with the neighbors. They both thanked me for setting up their tents for them. Antonio even gave me a hat. I entered the resident services to find Tom Nook and Timmy. Mr. Nook immediately had to offer me a free DIY workshop. I decided to do it because I figured, why not? After the class, I went outside and caught my very first fish. I spent the rest of the evening relaxing. I think I’ll really enjoy life here on Tarrey Town.
